Assignment 2

Heyyyy there! It's been a while after my post about the progress of my 2D's assignment and so, here it is!

Basically, for assignment 2, it's a continuous project from assignment 1 which is choosing one icon from the 20 images from what we drew and explored using different media. My icon is eye and I chose one of the eye consist of three colours, red, blue, violet and the other two aromatic colours are black and white! Here is the icon that I have chosen, just to clarify it......

Right after choosing it, we were ought to extract these colour spectrum and then paste it in a colour stripes which can be in a free way. We can make it evenly, horizontally, vertically or whatnot. These are the examples on how we should execute it.

We are free to do free-hand or Adobe but, to be honest, colouring in Illustrator makes life way more easier. It just saves my time, it's neat, colour scheme is very accurate and above all, OUTCOME is very satisfying! Here are my colour scheme!

Colour scheme, A3, mounted with art card

Later, we also have to create a wallpaper, A3 size using either Illustrator or by hand. But, most of the assignment were executed by AI and AP as it mostly turn out as what I imagined. Now back to business, the wallpaper have to be the icon that I chose and it can be added by several icons but the icon I chose has to be star. I make several research about how I wanted to be and finally I saw one wallpaper that is very inspiring I decided to do it , but in my own way.

After several ideations, I decided to make a little more like a 'pop-art' inspired wallpaper where there were many repeated eyes in  a 'BOOM!' sign in different sizes and hundreds of polkadots surrounding them. Because my eye are already a little clip-art looking, so I just execute it in this way as it will look more like a 'expensive' or clean looking wallpaper, somehow simple and nice.

Inspiration, 'Pop-Art' style

The process, using both Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator

Then, the we have to create an initial from our name and put it in our colour scheme. I did some research also and then combine it all in one. Making an initial of my own letter, J, Jason. Here are some of the photos I've taken as ideas...

I later, drew and scanned my initial which consist of a monster got eaten by a carnivorous and hungry fish, remaining these two images in a letter 'J'.

Before being transferred into AI, hand drawn and scanned

Final Outcome

FINALLY, the last thing we should do is designing a packaging from a paper bag that miss gave to us. So, I decided to come out with a logo for my brand which is a lion. I choose lion because it represents leadership, strength and courage as I feel it's very crucial in life and not to mention, lion is one of my favourite animal! Again, I did researches to get more inspiration and I found some, which is the lion of a luxury brand , Versace and other images of lion as well. Then, I designed my own version of lion and transferred it onto AI. Here are some images for you to see how the progress went!

Then, I transferred it onto AI, naming my clothing  brand 'LIE-ON' representing dominance in man and women as it will be mostly animal theme print clothes, if I were to explain what's the vision of my brand. lol

That's it! My assignment 2 outcomes and process! I hope you enjoyed it and I'll update my next tasks real soon!:)

Assignment 1

So it's been weeks ever since my update about 2D and here's more! After we made the envelope thing in the past few weeks, Ms Fu showed us some of amazing 2D art installation using a variety of medias and also textures and not long after, we were told to create 30 empty boxes in a A3 paper and hence draw any objects that contains textures into one of the boxes. Not to mention, drawing boxes again is so much troublesome. LOL

I've managed to draw half of it with the amount of time that Ms Fu gave and hence, we were asked to stop and continue it at home. Not long after, Ms Fu ordered us to take a bunch of newspaper, preferably English language and then pick any interesting topic without any sense of hesitation. So, I picked The Star's column discussing about the Miss Universe's incident that happened to the Miss Philippines last year. After choosing the article, we were told to choose again any of the drawing we drew in the 30 boxes that I've mentioned and I picked eyes. Right after that, we were briefed on our first 2D assignment which is to interpret the content of the article we chose and connect it with the drawing that we chose out of the 30 drawings in a A3 paper. It may sound hard and confusing and even I'm confused at first but then I got it thanks to my friends' help.

I started executing this assignment during the Chinese New Year holidays because I really don't want to do it at the very last minute and I know that I gonna need a lot of research to make it work. Hence, my idea for my 2D clipart is a beauty pageant at the centre of the stage where her crown is almost crowned to her head while a lot of eyes with different expressions are looking at her awkwardly. I've completed my final portrait after several trail and errors and showed to Ms Fu for any correction as I knew that something is gonna change because, well that's Ms Fu! She did asked me to correct it because it looks too sketchy as it doesn't play by the word 'clipart' already. She also asked me to avoid doing repeating lines as it will make it look sketchy. So, I managed to do another new one with less lines but more smooth and 'clipart looking' eyes as well.

We were also told to draw another 20 drawings from the objects that I chose which is the eye based from the 30 sketches...So here's all of the pictures of my process during completing Assignment 1. Enjoy!

2D Design

Its the very first day of 2D's class and I'm genuinely excited for this class because it's the only class that it's the class that we'll attend in a studio. Otherwise, most of our class is in the lecture hall which is SUPER BORING. Anyways, let's get started! Well our first 2D lecture is getting to know about 2D itself and also letting Ms Fu knew what are our thoughts about 2D. Basically, we'll learn almost the same thing in the past semester which is PoD's class, learning about elements of design and principle of organisation but in a more detailed way.

First of all, 2D means by a shape or any design that has two dimensions such as height and width with no thickness at all and most of it's design is composed with certain elements of design and principle of organisations. Plus, there is many techniques that we can apply to create 2D designs like, drawing, painting, sticking, poking, printing, sewing and many more! Here are some of 2D designs I've searched and talked about. Please do enjoy!

So after we've been briefed about it, we straight went into exercise 1 which is making an envelope a size of 18x12 cm. After that, we have design the front cover of the envelope by hand and the design of the envelope has it's own concept. I choose doodle line art and started doing it right away. The element of design i focused on is organic shapes whereas the principle of organisation is repetition. Here's the final outcome of the envelope!

So that's a wrap for our first 2D's class and I hope you guys enjoy it! By the way, I might sound boring af but I'm sure I'll bring you guys a wonderful journey from this class for the next 18 weeks and of course, more art stuff along the way!! Soon you next week!  :)
